Saltwater aquaponics / REF / 762 / 2014

Saltwater aquaponics is a proposed isolated fish-rearing system which is similar to standard aquaponics, except that it uses bivalves, crustaceans, algae, or plankton to process the waste from saltwater fish. The concept is meant to eliminate the stresses that are put on local fisheries and environments by conventional fish farming practices. Articles on this system, such as one by Geoff Wilson and two short asides by the administrator at seaweedguy.com, are not yet common.
Most proponents agree that as new as many consider aquaponics to be, saltwater aquaponics is in an extremely preliminary stage of development.
